Glasgow shopper in search of Doctor Who annual left empty-handed ... by the Doctor himself
A Glasgow shopper was left empty-handed in their search for a Doctor Who annual as a birthday present - after Doctor Who himself snapped up the last copy.
The strange-but-true event occurred on Wednesday, December 13 at the Waterstones book store in Sauchiehall Street.
Wendy Martin, from East Renfrewshire, was in the store to purchase the Doctor Who annual for her daughter, not long after Glasgow-born Peter Capaldi, who plays the eccentric Time Lord, had paid a similar visit.
She told Glasgow Live: “I went into the store to get the Doctor Who annual for my daughter Claire's 18th birthday, as I’ve done for years. When I saw there was none left on the stand I went over to the till and the staff member told me that the actual Doctor Who had not long come in and bought the last one.”
While a fellow Waterstones worker nearly fainted when the Doctor appeared at the till, the staff member also told Wendy that the Time Lord wasn’t too happy with how much he was being charged for a copy of a book that features himself on the front cover.
“The person at the till told me he complained about the price! Maybe he is just a fan himself and buys the annuals every year like we do for my daughter. She has been watching the show since she was five years old.”
Thankfully, there was no need to use the ‘Doctor took it’ excuse, as Wendy did manage to get her hands on a copy - and although she didn’t meet the extraterrestrial or his iconic Tardis, she still has a story to tell.
